This week (download here), the Geeks are excited to talk with Bryon Powell (@irunfar) from iRunFar.com. Bryon is the author of Relentless Forward Progress: A Guide to Running Ultramarathons and an 19 year veteran of endurance running. He will be running the Western States 100 this coming saturday (06/25/11).
Bryon came on the show to discuss trail running and give some introductory advice on ultra marathons. He mentioned that trail running has taken off over recent years because more people are looking for an “adventure” while running. Running on road “seems like running on a treadmill” since the scenery tends to be quite repetitive. He continues to give tips on the how and where to get started into trail running.
As for ultra marathons – Bryon mentions a few reasons why ultra marathoning is appealing to all types of runners. However, he does caution those who havent run a marathon to ease into the world of ultras. Check out his book - Relentless Forward Progress: A Guide to Running Ultramarathons - where he discusses training tips for those interested in running ultra distances.
