Episode 26 – Zombie Hunting with Chris Russell

This episode (download here), the geeks welcome Chris Russell (@cyktrussell) from the RunRunLive podcast to the show for an episode filled with sarcasm, and zombie knowledge – Jason has met his match! Chris’ 30+ years of running experience and laid back attitude leads to great discussions on training techniques, general tips for new runners, and (of course) zombies and yaks. Chris also takes time to answer some listener provided questions from the show’s Facebook page.

This week’s Twitter Search and Follow segment featured a search on – yes you guess it – Yak trax with @Runner4Life18 selected for this episode.

Until next time, leave feedback on iTunes,  email questions and comments to feedback [at] GeeksInRunningShoes [dot] com or just ‘like us’ on facebook! Also follow us on Twitter, Jason (@guttocutwl) and Ray (@adeyemiking).

Peace!

I listened to your podcast today and would like to answer your question about water stations at the Frostbite Series Half. I am assuming it will be similar to the 20K I did there this past weekend. There was a single water station setup in front of the Visitor’s Center, which you will pass twice during the run (assuming you don’t want water at the immediate start or finish). I found this to be adequate. As for the temps… it was very cold and windy for the 20K (14°F at the start and 18°F by the finish). I felt fine after we got warmed up and I really thought it was warmer than 18°F. The wind was crazy at times, but felt like it came in gusts and wasn’t a constant factor. Hope this helps… and good luck!

First of all, I just want to say how much I love your guys’ show! Just listened to this episode yesterday, and you were talking about wanting to run a zombie-themed race. I live in Anchorage, and every October there is a zombie-themed 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, and “Undead Ultra” 50k. I ran the 1/2 this past year, and it was such a blast, you can check out my recap here if you’re interested: http://ahealthydad.com/2010/10/25/zombie-half-marathon-recap/

Keep up the great work guys!

Thanks so much for the kind words, Brandon. That zombie race looks awesome! I’m going to try to talk Chris Russell into taking me up there to run it. Well, he’ll run it, I’ll attempt to hobble through it. Thanks for the heads-up!
