He’s Baaack!, this episode (download here) the Geeks welcome back the Running Laminator (@runninglam) to the show!! Just like his previous guest appearance on the show (see episode 7), Lam dropped some serious knowledge on us. This week’s discussion revolved around running ambassadorship, and the health related effects of running.
First off, Lam makes the point about how we are all ambassadors of running to our non-running friends, and family even though we may not always realize it. We should not only take pride in this but also own up to the responsibility that comes along with educating and motivating others who might be intrigued by running but have not made the step towards it…yet.
Also, in response to the question on the health related effects of running, (i.e. how it can lower blood pressure, and cholesterol), the discussion goes on to focus more on overall nutrition and family history rather than just running as these have a much bigger impact on health than running alone. Along those lines, the guys also talk about nutrition supplements, and possible side effects of elite running. Did you know that nutrition supplements are not FDA approved?
Lastly, the guys talk about this past year. Along with Lam they review their accomplishments this past year and share what they have planned for 2011. If you would like share your year with us, feel free to drop us a comment on our facebook page.
Treadmill tip: when running on the treadmill, try to change your pace or incline every five minutes or so. Set the incline to 1% for regular runs (the 1% compensates for wind and other pace adjusting issues found when running outside). Use 0% incline for downhill training.
This week’s Twitter Search & Follow segment featured @wuwu56 as we searched on ‘running supplements.’
Until next time, leave feedback on iTunes, email questions and comments to feedback [at] GeeksInRunningShoes [dot] com or just ‘like us’ on facebook! Also follow us on Twitter, Jason (@guttocutwl) and Ray (@adeyemiking). To learn more about Lam, check out his very informative blog runninglam.com.
