Episode 9 – Week Before the Race

A relatively short episode (download here) as the guys talk about the week of preparation for the race in Chicago this upcoming weekend. As usual the guys start off the show with an update on Jason’s past week of training.

The guys discuss running speed insecurities and reference a blog post by former guest, Lam (@runninglam). Lam did a very good post on running confidence and the tendency of new runners to set unreasonable speed expectations.

Feedback email continued this week as we received encouraging email from Ted (@AirForceTed) and Rick(@Tahoka_Freeway). It appears that the twitter “harassment” segment continues to be a favorite.

This week, we featured twitter user @RunKW as we searched for “Chicago Half Marathon.” Kevin is also getting ready for this weekends Half Marathon and we wish him all the luck.

Until next time, leave feedback on iTunes, email questions and comments to feedback [at] GeeksInRunningShoes [dot] com. Also, follow us on Twitter, Jason (@guttocutwl) and Ray (@adeyemiking).

As always, thanks for listening!

What’s your next race? I love your show! Look forward to listening to it on Monday mornings at work.

Please keep updating us on the injury, Ray. So many people get injured and it’s interesting to hear how other folks deal with it, recover, etc.

Good luck Jason! I’m backpacking this weekend, but can’t wait to hear how you do on Monday!

So you’re ditching our live show on Saturday for backpacking? We’ll let that slide this time. After Chicago, I might do a 10k in October and a few 5ks here and there, but my next big race will probably be in April at the GOSTL Marathon in St. Louis. I’d love to try a triathlon, but I’m not a strong swimmer and don’t really have the time to devote to the training. We shall see! Thanks for the feedback as always!

Theresa, I did not bother give an injury update during the last episode because I felt like I was starting to sound like whiner. I’ve been hurt for so long now that it appears to be the same story every episode. However, I see your point, part of the reason that we do have a running community is that we get share experiences with each other – including the bad ones I guess.

Anyway, the leg is still hurt. The plan is to get a MRI this week and review the results with my Dr. I am hoping that whatever was damaged (if anything) would have healed enough by now and that physical therapy over the next couple of weeks will get me back in my running shoes. Having said that, as I type this response…I am thinking about heading out to do a quick run around the track to test it out. Hope I don’t make it worse :)

Anyway, thanks as always for the feedback. You know we really appreciate it. Btw, it sucks that you wont be able to join us on Ustream this weekend.

    Guys,

Great podcast, and good luck with the Half Marathon this weekend. Try not to overthink it and enjoy all aspects of the experience. Ray, don’t fret the sidelines, just absorb the atmosphere and use it to build your resolve.

    Again, all the best!

    Thanks,

    Jay
